In a boost to city sports, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has signed an MoU with the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) to build a modern tennis complex in Pandharabodi. The facility will come up on a 2-acre NMC-owned plot near Shri Sarveshvara Devalaya temple.
While NMC is providing the land, MSLTA will bear the entire cost of construction, maintenance, and operations. The land ownership will remain with NMC, preserving it as a public asset.
The upcoming facility will feature seven international-standard courts—both synthetic and lawn surfaces—suitable for hosting major tournaments and training local talent. MSLTA will manage the complex for ten years, with the option of renewal or change in management later.
To ensure community benefit, MSLTA will offer concessions for events organized by NMC and the state, especially for schoolchildren and youth from underprivileged areas.
“This project reflects our commitment to making quality sports infrastructure accessible to all,” said NMC Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari. “It’s about building opportunity, not just facilities.”
MSLTA will also set usage fees for the public, expected to be kept affordable to encourage broader participation.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, seeing it as an inclusive alternative to high-cost private clubs. Construction is expected to begin soon, marking a new chapter for grassroots sports in Nagpur.
