A series of four earthquakes struck parts of India, Myanmar, and Tajikistan within the span of an hour on Sunday morning, triggering panic and raising fresh concerns over seismic activity in the region.
The first tremor, a magnitude 3.4 quake, was recorded at 9:00 AM IST in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Occurring at a shallow depth of 5 km (coordinates: 31.49°N, 76.94°E), the quake was minor but strong enough to be felt by residents. Local reports described a low rumble followed by a sudden jolt, prompting people to evacuate buildings. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Shortly after, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Meiktila in central Myanmar, as confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This tremor is one of the strongest aftershocks following the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28, which claimed over 3,600 lives. The recent quake was felt in major cities including Mandalay and Naypyitaw, where recovery efforts from the earlier disaster are still underway.
Additional tremors were also reported in parts of Tajikistan, though details on their intensity and impact were not immediately available.
