Staying true to her commitment made during the Senate meeting a month ago, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), Dr Madhavi Khode-Chaware, has confirmed the launch of Suvidha Kendra on April 15.
These student service centres will be set up in four key locations under the university’s jurisdiction — Gondia, Bhandara, Wardha, and Katol (Nagpur district) — with the aim of easing access to university services for students studying in affiliated institutions outside Nagpur.
Currently, students from these districts often have to travel to the Nagpur headquarters even for minor administrative tasks. The Senate has long been advocating for decentralised student support. Although a proposal for sub-centres was raised in the Senate meeting on November 1, 2023, it could not materialise due to lack of government approval.
As an alternative, the then Vice-Chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare had allocated Rs 20 lakh in 2023 for such a facility. The project, however, faced delays until the March 21, 2025 Senate meeting, where Dr Khode-Chaware revived and approved the plan, promising an April 15 launch — now set to become a reality.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr Khode-Chaware said, “It was the need of the hour. I strongly feel the university should be student-centric. These centres will ensure students no longer need to travel to Nagpur for small issues. Their problems will be resolved locally.”
The centres are expected to benefit over 4 lakh students across 540 affiliated colleges.
Senate members including Waman Turke, Ajay Chavan, Prathamesh Fulekar, Roshni Khelkar, Dinesh Sheram, Sunil Phudke, Manish Wanjari, Kishor Ingle, Shubhangi Nakshine, Raj Madankar, Niraj Jawade, and Kavita Loya expressed gratitude to Dr Khode-Chaware for accelerating the initiative.
