A senior citizen from Nagpur has been defrauded of over Rs 8.93 crore after a city-based builder allegedly violated a development agreement and sold flats meant for her to other buyers. Pratapnagar Police have booked the accused under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.
According to police, the complainant Nalini Satishchandra Bute (66), a resident of Pavanbhumi, Manish Nagar, Somalwada, owned ancestral land located at Khasra No. 91/1, Sheet No. 44, House No. 4196/A in Swavalambi Nagar. She had plans to develop a residential flat scheme on this land.
To carry out the project, she signed a development agreement with Shashank Govindprasad Pandey (54), proprietor of Prayagraj Developers and a resident of Sunder Apartment, near TB Ward, Ajni. As per the agreement, Bute was to receive 14 flats from the project.
However, between July 30, 2015, and January 31, 2024, the accused completed construction but failed to hand over the promised flats. Instead, he allegedly sold the flats to other buyers without the complainant’s knowledge or consent, resulting in a financial loss amounting to Rs 8.93 crore.
Following an investigation based on Bute’s complaint, Sub-Inspector Charade of Pratapnagar Police Station registered a case against the accused under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
