The documents handling charges on sale and purchase of properties have been increased from Rs 20 per page to Rs 40 per page by the state government, the Inspector General of Registration and Stamp Duty Controller’s office has announced.
The charges have been doubled due to rising expenses on offices of the Sub-Registrars, computerisation, 35 different systems, software, hardware, and network maintenance expenses etc. Expenses on skilled manpower have also increased, the notification says.
The Association of Service Providers has questioned the hike in charges for document handling, after the hike in registration fees.
The government earns a revenue of about Rs 4000 crore per month from the registration of documents. The estimated rise in earnings will be announced soon.
