In a concerted effort to trace missing women and children, the Nagpur City Police has launched Operation Shodh, a month-long campaign set to run from April 17 to May 15, 2025. The initiative aims to intensify search operations and resolve long-pending cases, particularly those involving women missing for over a year.
According to the 2022 report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Maharashtra ranks second in the country for missing women cases and first for missing children. Taking serious note of these figures, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, during a crime conference held in March 2025, instructed senior police officials to focus on unresolved cases and take decisive steps to locate the missing individuals.
Acting on these directions, Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has formed special teams at every sub-divisional level in Nagpur. Each team consists of one police officer and three constables, including a woman constable. In addition, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) from the Crime Branch will support the campaign across the city.
The campaign is being implemented under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Makanikar and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil.
Nagpur Police has appealed to the public to stay vigilant and report any unidentified, suspicious, or abandoned women and children spotted in their localities. Citizens can call Dial 112 or contact Police Inspector Todase from the AHTU at 9923198606. Information can also be provided at the nearest police station.
