Nagpur: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday issued summons to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in connection with an election petition challenging his victory from the Nagpur South West Assembly constituency in the 2024 state polls.
The petition was filed by Congress candidate Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, who was defeated by Fadnavis by a margin of 39,710 votes. Gudadhe has alleged procedural irregularities and corrupt practices during the election process, urging the court to declare Fadnavis’ win as “null and void.”
“A bench led by Justice Pravin Patil issued the summons to CM Fadnavis, returnable on May 8,” informed Gudadhe’s counsel Pavan Dahat while speaking to PTI. He, along with co-counsel A.B. Moon, argued that several mandatory provisions were not adhered to during the November 2024 polls.
Fadnavis returned as Chief Minister after the Mahayuti alliance secured a sweeping victory, bagging 230 out of 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly.
In related developments, the High Court also issued similar summons to BJP legislators Mohan Mate from Nagpur West and Kirtikumar Bhangdia from the Chimur constituency in Chandrapur district, following election petitions filed against their victories.
