In a swift and strategic operation, Nagpur police foiled a kidnapping attempt involving an Amravati-based trader in the busy Ramdaspeth area of the city here, on Friday. The accused allegedly conspired to abduct the trader over a financial dispute.
The victim, identified as Mahavir Kothari, was reportedly targeted due to a pending loan of Rs 1 lakh he had taken from the accused, Salman Khan. Investigations have revealed that Salman, along with his associate Mazhar Pathan, plotted the abduction. A woman named Pinky is also believed to have assisted them.
The incident occurred near the Jain Temple in Ramdaspeth. Acting promptly on the alert, DCP Rahul Madane deployed a special team that tracked down and apprehended Salman Khan from the Wadi area. However, Mazhar Pathan and Pinky managed to flee and remain at large.
Police sources indicated that Kothari had been involved in multiple financial dealings and had borrowed money from several individuals in Amravati as well, adding complexity to the case.
Sitabuldi Police have registered a case under kidnapping and related charges and are carrying out further investigation based on technical evidence. Senior officers are closely monitoring the probe.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the remaining accused, and more revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.
