Nandanvan Police apprehended a 25-year-old man in possession of mephedrone (MD) powder worth over ₹35,000 during an early morning patrol near Danish Lawn in Hasanbagh on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Sohail Sheikh Shakil Ahmad, a resident of Chandni Chowk in Hasanbagh, was caught between 5:10 am and 6:30 am while acting suspiciously in the area. Upon being intercepted, police recovered 5.11 grams of MD powder and a mobile phone from his possession. The total estimated value of the seized items is ₹35,550.
According to officials, Sohail was allegedly carrying the synthetic drug with the intent to sell it for financial gain. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Nandanvan Police Station, and the accused has been taken into custody.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, Additional CP Shivajirao Rathod, DCP Rashmita Rao, and ACP Narendra Hivare. The team included PI Vinayak Koli, PSI Pravin Raut, HC Dinesh Jugnake, HC Vilas Chaudhary, constables Pravin Marape, Ramdas Haran, and WPC Arti Shukla.
