A metal object weighing around 50 kg fell from the sky onto a house in Umred town’s Kose Layout at around 4 am on Saturday, triggering panic among residents. The object crashed onto the terrace of Amay Baseshankar’s house, damaging a portion of the parapet. The loud noise woke up locals, who rushed out and gathered at the scene. Police, led by Inspector Dhanaji Jalak, reached the spot and found a thick, partially broken iron sheet on the terrace. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to a local daily report, Jalak said that since it was unclear whether the metal object had fallen from an aircraft or another source, it was seized and brought to the police station for safekeeping. A forensic team from Nagpur has been called in, and a detailed investigation is underway. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, he added.

Baseshankar’s house is a single-storey structure with no tall buildings nearby, raising questions about the origin of the metal object. The piece, weighing around 50 kg, stands about four feet tall and is 10 to 12 mm thick. Locals who inspected it soon after the fall noted that the metal was hot to the touch.
House owner Smita Baseshankar said the family was alarmed by the sudden noise early in the morning. “We were scared after hearing a sudden loud noise in the morning, we stood near the door of the house for a few minutes. People gathered. We noticed that a piece of metal had fallen on the roof of our house. We then informed the police,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector Dhanaji Jalak said, “Air Traffic Control clarified that there was no piece of aircraft or debris fell in the area. The investigation will reveal the truth soon.”
The object, weighing around 50 kg, measuring 4 feet in length and 10-12 mm thick, has been seized and taken to the police station for further analysis. The investigation is focused on determining the origin of this mysterious metal piece, with speculation that it could be a fragment from a satellite. Authorities are working to identify its exact nature and source. Suresh Chopane from the Sky Watch Group in Chandrapur mentioned, “I spoke with officials at ISRO, but they require official details through the district collector. Sky debris is a growing concern, and more such pieces may fall in the future.”
