In a step toward sustainable urban growth, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will soon draft a comprehensive policy for managing and reusing construction and demolition (C&D) waste, as announced by Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari during a seminar held on World Earth Day.
Hosted at Vanamati under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the seminar focused on the challenges of unregulated C&D waste in Nagpur. Dr. Chaudhari emphasized the need for a streamlined process—from collection to recycling and reuse—and revealed that a processing project is already active at Bhandewadi.
Experts called for stricter penalties on illegal debris dumping, which harms both health and traffic. MPCB’s Hema Deshpande stressed the need for dust control during demolition, while NEERI’s Dr. Sangeeta Goyal shared findings on air quality impacts.
C&D Waste Pvt. Ltd. showcased Hyderabad’s successful model, and SDPL’s Gaurav Agrawal pushed for easier delivery of recycled material to construction sites.
