With temperatures surging across Vidarbha since early April, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has launched an intensive maintenance and repair drive across its electricity distribution network in Nagpur Circle. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply through the peak summer months and into the upcoming monsoon season.
Based on previous disruptions and weather forecasts from the Meteorological Department, MSEDCL expects extreme heat in April and May, followed by sudden storms and lightning—conditions that often compromise power infrastructure. Given the exposure of much of the electricity network to open weather, it remains particularly vulnerable to these climatic disturbances.
To prevent outages and ensure a seamless electricity supply, MSEDCL has strengthened its systems and begun preventive action across Nagpur and Wardha districts. One key initiative includes trimming overgrown tree branches near power lines—frequent culprits of short circuits. Officials are securing the necessary permissions to carry out the work in sensitive areas.
In addition, the utility is addressing hazards posed by foreign objects such as kites, manja (glass-coated string), flags, plastic banners, and flex boards tangled in power lines. Immediate removal of these obstructions has been ordered to prevent disruptions.
Other ongoing maintenance activities include tightening loose guard wires, correcting sagging spans between poles, and reinforcing pole structures. Transformer maintenance is also underway, including oil level checks and replacement of discolored silica gel in breathers. Reinforcement of earthing connections at various power points is being prioritized to enhance overall safety.
MSEDCL has urged the public to cooperate during this critical maintenance period. While some temporary inconveniences may arise, the utility stressed that these proactive measures are essential to ensure a reliable and safe electricity supply throughout the challenging summer and monsoon months.
