Even as work progresses on the third and fourth railway lines, the condition at Ajni and Godhani railway stations remains far from ideal. Now, concerns are rising over the lack of basic maintenance at the upcountry railway gate on Bokhara Road, where repair work at the KG-1 crossing has been left incomplete for several days, increasing the risk of accidents.
The approach roads on both sides of the crossing are also in a deteriorated state, further contributing to commuter difficulties.
While a Road Over Bridge (ROB) has been proposed for this location, progress is likely to be sluggish, especially if it falls under the direct purview of the Railways. Though the ROB project has received formal approval, preliminary surveys and studies are yet to be carried out.
According to railway sources, repair work at the crossing is stalled due to the lack of an available traffic block, a prerequisite for undertaking maintenance. Meanwhile, traffic volumes have surged significantly on the routes behind Bokhara and Godhani stations.
Plans are reportedly in place for a Y-shaped bridge that would begin at Koradi Naka—one ramp heading toward Bokhara and the other toward Alankar Society. To support this infrastructure, the Railways will need to construct an Intermediate Under Bridge (IUB) at a suitable alternative location. However, no public consultation or engagement with local residents has taken place so far regarding these plans.
Notably, for the Railways to carry out repairs on just 10 meters of the crossing, a formal gate closure notice was required for two days. If the gate is to remain closed for over a year during ROB construction, lack of alternative arrangements could pose serious logistical and safety challenges.
