In a significant move to support and encourage emerging talent in sports, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC)has extended financial assistance to 74 athletes from the city under its ‘Udaan Khel Protsahan Yojana’.
A total of Rs 57.89 lakh has been disbursed as part of the scholarship scheme, aimed at recognizing the achievements of local sportspersons at national and international levels. Applications were accepted both online and offline, and a dedicated selection committee finalized the list of beneficiaries based on their performance and eligibility.
As per the scheme, athletes who secured medals for India in the past three years have been awarded Rs 2 lakh each. Among the top recipients are:
- Shashruti Vinayak Nakade (Triathlon)
- Malvika Prabodh Bansod (Badminton)
- Alfiya Tarannum Pathan (Boxing)
- Snehal and Sanjana Sunil Joshi (Triathlon)
- Mrudul Vilas Dehankar, Divya Jitendra Deshmukh, Raunak Bharat Sadhwani (Chess)
- Jennifer Varghese (Table Tennis)
- Ojas Praveen Deotale (Archery)
Additionally, Mrinali Prakash Pandey (Chess) and Siya Deodhar (Basketball) received Rs 1 lakh each for representing India in international events.
Under the same initiative:
- 15 athletes who have won medals at national tournaments were granted Rs 1 lakh each.
- 9 players who participated at the national level received Rs 21,000 each.
- Another 38 sportspersons, recognized for their medal-winning performances at national championships, were awarded Rs 50,000 each.
