Cine Montage, the oldest film appreciation society in Central India will be celebrating its 47th Foundation Day on Sunday, 27th April at the AV Hall of Dinanath High School, 6.00 pm onwards.
In view of the recent demise of the legendary film maker Mr. Shyam Benegal, the theme this year will be ‘Shyam Benegal’s Idea of India’. Mr. Prashant Joshi will give an introduction, which will be followed by the screening of first episode of Benegal’s famous TV serial ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’. Later, Dr. Ruta Dharmadhikari, Film scholar and Vice Principal of LAD College will share her views, followed by Mr. Swanand Kottewar, film maker, who will share his perspective. Afterwards, open house discussion will follow, inviting participation from the audience. The event is open for all. Interested persons may confirm their participation to Mr. Jayshankar (9425670177) or Mr. Prashant Joshi (7028025800).
Cine Montage annual membership is now open to all the persons above the age of 18, under the categories single, couples and students. The membership forms would be available at the venue.
Started by a few film buffs from the city in the seventies and enjoying the patronage of the then Who’s Who from various strata, the film appreciation movement pioneered by Cine Montage became passive around the turn of the millennium due to the onslaught of video libraries and various multimedia channels, and was revived a few years later, in the fond memory of one its founder members, Mr. D.P. aka ‘Gora’ Ganguly, who passed away in 2008.
Cine Montage has been screening films nearly every Sunday evening at Dinanath High School, Dhantoli and occasionally at Chitanavis Centre, Civil Lines; enjoying a growing yet select patronage of cinephiles across all the age groups. Each screening is followed by lively discussions about various aspects of the movie. Scores of movies of various genres and from many countries have been screened so far, covering a wide array of topics.
Other than this, Cine Montage organizes many events throughout the year, such as Foundation Day, Gora Ganguly Memorial Celebrations Day, mini film festivals, guest lectures of eminent personalities from various walks of life etc.
The office bearers have appealed to all the cine lovers to attend the event.
