The Indian Premier League 2025 witnessed history in the making on Monday as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals delivered a jaw-dropping performance against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The teenager hammered a blistering 101 runs off just 38 balls, including a 35-ball century making him the youngest player in professional cricket to achieve a T20 hundred.
At just 14 years and 32 days old, the Bihar-born left-hander not only etched his name into the record books as the youngest centurion in professional cricket, but also set a new benchmark for the fastest hundred by an Indian in IPL history.
Cricketing legends and current stars were quick to shower praise. Rohit Sharma shared his admiration on Instagram, writing, “Class @vaibhav_sooryavanshi09”, while Suryakumar Yadav posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Witnessed this carnage of an innings by this youngster. Absolutely insane!”
Former World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh reflected on the feat with awe, posting, “What were you doing at 14?!! This kid is taking on the best bowlers in the world without blinking an eyelid! Vaibhav Suryavanshi remember the name! Proud to see the next generation shine.”
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar also lauded the prodigy’s performance, noting, “Vaibhav’s fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings.”
Suryavanshi surpassed the previous record held by Vijay Zol, who had scored a century at 18 years and 118 days in a domestic match in 2013. His 35-ball century now stands as the second fastest in IPL history, behind only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
Vaibhav’s sensational knock ended when he was bowled by pacer Prasidh Krishna for 101, drawing a standing ovation from the Jaipur crowd and the Rajasthan Royals dugout. His 166-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal set the foundation for a successful 210-run chase, which the Royals completed with eight wickets in hand and 25 balls to spare.
