The Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police has busted a betting racket linked to the ongoing IPL 2025 season and apprehended a bookie involved in placing illegal bets during the Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans match on Monday. The raid was conducted in the Ajni police station limits.
The accused has been identified as Amjad Khan Ahmed Khan Pathan (46), a resident of Taj Nagar, near KMG Hospital, Ajni. He was allegedly operating the betting activity from the second floor of his residence on Mane Wada Road.
Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch Unit 5 team raided the location and found the accused accepting bets while watching the live telecast of the IPL match. The police seized betting material worth ₹1,83,700, including mobile phones and other equipment used in the gambling operation.
A case has been registered at Ajni Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act. The accused, along with the seized items, has been handed over to Ajni Police for further investigation.
