In response to the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the state government has announced the creation of a Maharashtra Tourism Security Force to be deployed at key tourist destinations. The force will be introduced on a trial basis during the Mahabaleshwar festival, which will take place at the Satara hill station from May 2 to 4.
Personnel for the new Maharashtra Tourism Security Force will be recruited from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation. During the pilot phase, which will run until August 31, the force will be deployed at Mahabaleshwar for the first time with 25 personnel. Senior officers, appointed by the Satara district superintendent of police, will supervise and monitor the force. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will bear the costs, as confirmed by tourism minister Shambhuraj Desai on Monday.
