In response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the Maharashtra government has declared a financial aid of ₹50 lakh for the families of the victims from the state. This announcement came during a state cabinet meeting on Tuesday, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his deep condolences and paid tribute to the victims.
According to a media report, along with the financial assistance, the government has committed to addressing the education and employment needs of the affected families. During the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially announced that Santosh Jagdale’s daughter, a victim of the Pahalgam terror attack, will be offered a government job as part of the support package.
This decision comes after earlier discussions in which the government had expressed its intention to provide a job to the victim’s daughter. With the Chief Minister’s special authority, the formal decision has now been made. Previously, the Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Government had also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased victims and Rs 2 lakh for those who sustained serious injuries in the attack.
“No amount of money can ever compensate for the loss of loved ones, but as a mark of support and solidarity, the J&K Government announces an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries,” the J-K Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a post on X.”
“All arrangements for the dignified transport of the victims back to their homes have been made. The injured are being provided the best medical care,” the CMO added.
The terror attack in Pahalgam took place on April 22 at the popular Baisaran meadow, where terrorists targeted tourists, resulting in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals from various states and one Nepalese citizen, with several others injured. In response to the attack, the Indian government took decisive action by suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, downgrading bilateral relations with Pakistan, and shutting down the Attari checkpost, sending a strong message to Islamabad following the brazen assault.
