Two key infrastructure projects, the Phase 2 of the Metro-3 corridor and the final phase of the Samruddhi Expressway, are expected to be opened to the public on May 1st. Sources say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be in Mumbai for another event, is likely to inaugurate both projects. Once operational, these initiatives will greatly enhance travel speed and efficiency for commuters.
CMRS Certification for Phase 2 of Metro-3 Under Process
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has completed the inspection of the 9.6 km stretch from BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) to Acharya Atre Chowk as part of Phase 2 of the underground Metro-3 corridor. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) is now awaiting the final certification from CMRS to begin commercial operations.
Once the certification is received, Metro services on this stretch will be open to the public. Phase 2 will expand the Metro network to 20 km of the total 33.35 km corridor, connecting Aarey to Worli (Acharya Atre Chowk). Inspections for six stations in this phase have been completed, and trial runs have been conducted over the past four months. Full operations are expected to begin by July, covering the entire Colaba to Aarey stretch.
Phase 2 Stations (9.6 km):
– Dharavi
– Sheetla Devi Temple
– Dadar
– Siddhivinayak
– Worli
– Acharya Atre Chowk
Samruddhi Expressway final stretch soon to be launched completing the 701km long highway opened for traffic.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has completed work on the last 76 km stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway, connecting Igatpuri to Amane in Thane. Once approved, the entire 701 km Mumbai-Nagpur expressway — the country’s most high-tech roadway — will be fully open for traffic.
So far, 625 km of the expressway is already operational. With the final stretch in place, commuters will be able to travel from Mumbai to Nagpur in just eight hours.
