Wildlife enthusiasts can register for the much-awaited ‘Nisarg Anubhav’ (Waterhole Census) activity by filling out a Google form between April 30 and May 2. The Maharashtra Forest Department will conduct the event across all six tiger reserves of the state—PTR, UPKWS, and BTR—on May 12.
Wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists can apply online for this exciting activity. In Nagpur district, the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary (UPKWS), and Bor Tiger Reserve (BTR) will host the event on Buddha Poornima, when the full moon offers the best visibility of the jungle.
A first-come, first-served policy will be followed for registration and allocation of machans within the respective wildlife divisions. In 2024, over 200 wildlife enthusiasts applied for the activity, but only 101 were selected due to the limited number of machans.
This year, the waterhole census will take place in the Paoni (Unified Control) and Nagalwadi ranges of Pench Tiger Reserve, the Kuhi, Paoni, and Umred ranges of UPKWS, and the Bor, New Bor, Hingni (Buffer), Bangdapur (Buffer), and Kavdas (Buffer) forest areas in Bor Tiger Reserve. A total of 103 machans will be allocated across the three protected areas in Nagpur district.
Selected volunteers are required to reach their assigned gates by 3 p.m. on May 12, and they will be released from the jungle at 8 a.m. on May 13. To participate in this annual event, applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Interested individuals can fill out the Google Form, which will be available on [www.penchtiger-reserve.maharashtra.gov.in](http://www.penchtiger-reserve.maharashtra.gov.in) or [www.mahaforest.gov.in](http://www.mahaforest.gov.in). The form will be open for submissions from 12 Noon on April 30 to 6 p.m. on May 2.
