Following disturbing reports of child sexual abuse in unauthorized shelter homes in Alandi and Thane, the Nagpur City Police have intensified efforts to identify and take legal action against unregistered child care institutions operating in the city.
Reports suggest that several illegal orphanages and hostels across Maharashtra are confining children without authorization and exposing them to physical, mental, and sexual abuse. These actions are a direct violation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (amended in 2021) and the Maharashtra State Juvenile Justice Rules, 2018.
Under the direction of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Nagpur Police are actively tracing individuals and organizations running such illegal facilities. Authorities have stated that anyone found operating unregistered child shelters will face strict legal consequences.
In a public appeal, Nagpur Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious or illegal institutions. Individuals aware of any abuse or unregistered shelter homes are encouraged to report directly to Nayana Munde, Commissioner of the Women and Child Development Department, Pune, or call the Child Helpline at 1098.
