At least 124 examination centres across Maharashtra have come under the scanner for suspected malpractice during the Higher Secondary Examinations held in February and March. The results for Maharashtra Class 12 were declared on May 5.
The School Education Department, led by Director Sharad Gosavi, has stated that the identified centres will be kept under strict watch. If allegations are confirmed, their permission to conduct future examinations will be revoked.
Among these centres, the highest number—44—are located in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division.
The remaining centres under scrutiny are spread across Pune (25), Nagpur (19), Latur (11), Amravati (10), Nashik (6), Mumbai (5), Kolhapur (3), and one in Konkan. In total, 367 cases of malpractice were reported, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar once again recording the highest number.
Before the exams, authorities had issued statement that every bit of cheating would be greeted with the most severe penalty – the irreversible loss of centre recognition.
Such a statement was a part of the Copy Mukt Abhiyaan, a campaign by the new Mahayuti government, which worked towards purging the system of examination of all fraudulent practice.
This year, besides the team’s appointment for any malpractice, drones were sent to the centres to make certain everyone took the standard path.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has declared the Class 12 board result on May 5, with an impressive 91.86% pass percentage across all streams.
More than 15.13 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 exams conducted from February 11 to March 11 across 3,373 centres in Maharashtra.
The Konkan division recorded the highest pass percentage at 96.74%, while Latur had the lowest at 89.46%.
The State Board has decided to de-recognise 124 of these centres out of a total of 3,773 due to malpractice concerns.
