Two consecutive accidents on the Shaheed Gowari Flyover Monday evening caused severe traffic congestion, forcing traffic police to shut down the flyover for over 20 minutes during peak hours.
The first incident occurred around 6:50 PM, when a Chevrolet Beat rear-ended a Mahindra XUV700 while both vehicles were heading towards Morris College T-point. The collision disrupted the traffic flow, causing a backlog from Rahate Colony Square to the T-point.
Just 15 minutes later, a second accident unfolded on the same stretch near Moonlight Studio. A speeding passenger vehicle rammed into a Toyota Innova from behind, bringing the latter to a sudden halt and further worsening the traffic situation.
The twin collisions resulted in a bottleneck at Morris College T-point, leaving vehicles—particularly four-wheelers—stranded for nearly 30 minutes. The congestion also spilled onto nearby roads, affecting traffic movement from RBI Square and the Institute of Science, and causing delays across multiple routes.
Authorities eventually cleared the flyover and restored normal traffic flow.
