Nagpur: In a noteworthy recovery, Bajaj Nagar Police seized a 0.22 bore pistol that had remained unrenewed and unaccounted for over the past 20 years. The firearm was licensed under number 3819/III/NGP/1996 to M.P. Tankasale, a former Additional Commissioner (Revenue) who served in Nagpur from 1993 to 1996.
During a verification drive, police officials visited Tankasale’s registered address in Bajaj Nagar, only to find an office operating at the location. With the help of technical tools and intelligence gathering, officers learned that the license holder had passed away on January 29, 2006, and that his daughter currently resides in the United States.
Acting on this information, the police contacted the daughter and conducted a search of their ancestral residence in her presence. During the inspection, the pistol was discovered inside an old cupboard. It was confirmed that the weapon had not been renewed since March 31, 2006.
The firearm was immediately seized and handed over to the Bajaj Nagar Police Station’s armoury for safekeeping. The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP (HQ) Ashwini Patil, DCP (Zone 1) Lohit Matani, ACP Ashok Shelke, and PI Surendra Aherkar, with PSI Vikas Mende, Constable Raymond James, and Sepoy Prashant Mende executing the action.
