Vidarbha is experiencing a brief respite from the intense summer heat, with cloudy weather, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds helping to subdue rising temperatures across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that maximum temperatures will remain below normal until May 8, following which a rise is expected, potentially leading to heatwave conditions in isolated pockets.
The dip in temperatures is attributed to consecutive cyclonic circulations and the presence of a trough system over central India, which have contributed to unseasonal rainfall and cloud cover across Vidarbha. These weather systems are expected to continue influencing the region for the next two to three days.
On Tuesday, the highest recorded temperature in the region was in Akola at 40.3°C, followed closely by Brahmapuri at 40.0°C. Gondia saw the most rainfall in the last 36 hours, recording 10.4 mm, while other areas such as Gadchiroli (7 mm), Chandrapur (5 mm), Amravati (4 mm), and Nagpur (1.8 mm) also experienced light showers.
As a result of the weather changes, maximum temperatures across all districts stayed below 40°C on Tuesday. Gondia reported the lowest maximum at 36.6°C. Other districts such as Bhandara (37.6°C), Buldhana (37.0°C), and Amravati (38.4°C) also recorded relatively cooler daytime temperatures.
Night temperatures also saw a significant drop, with Gondia reporting the highest deviation from normal at 9.3°C, and Nagpur recording a departure of 6.1°C.
Weather experts warn that the relief is temporary, and temperatures are expected to climb again post-May 8, bringing back intense summer heat to the region.
