In a unique initiative aimed at promoting Sikh history and culture, the Sikh Welfare Forum will organize a citywide drawing competition across seven gurdwaras in Nagpur on May 11, 2025. The competition is open to children of all religions and will focus on various aspects of Sikh heritage.
The Forum, a charitable organization dedicated to the welfare and upliftment of the Sikh community, is currently working to improve awareness and access to central and state government welfare schemes for Sikhs. The upcoming drawing competition is part of this broader engagement effort.
This is the first time a coordinated event of this scale is being held simultaneously across multiple gurdwaras in the city. Children will compete in three age groups: 8–11 years, 12–14 years, and 15–18 years. Topics for the youngest group include “Five Ks,” “Four Sahibzaade,” and portraits of Bhagat Singh or Udham Singh.
The 12–14 group will draw figures like Baba Deep Singh Ji, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji, and Hari Singh Nalwa Ji. For the oldest group, topics include historical events such as the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the Battle of Saragarhi, and the Battle of Chamkaur Sahib.
The event is being led by Forum President Arunpal Singh Behl and General Secretary Kulvinderpal Singh Sabharwal, with active support from Satpal Singh Virdi, Deep Lamba, Amandeep Kapoor, Sukhmeet Chawla, Anoop Singh Babra, Pinky Charotra, and Harpreet Singh Babra.
The drawing competition will take place at the following gurdwaras:
- Gurdwara Ramdas Ji (coordinator: S. Arvinder Singh Gujral)
- Gurdwara Kalgidhar Ji, Budh Nagar (Gurjeet Singh Bamrah and Ramandeep Singh Goombar)
- Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Gurunanakpura (Inderjit Singh Baveja)
- Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Singh Ji (Navneet Singh Bhullar)
- Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha (Bhai Satinder Singh Ji)
- Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib (S. Sarwan Singh Multani and Sukhwinder Singh Gill)
- Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji (Mukesh Singh)
Entry is free and open to all. Spot registrations will be accepted. Each category will have first, second, and third prizes, along with five consolation prizes.
Earlier, on May 4, an essay competition on Sikh history was held at the same venues, receiving an overwhelming response from children of all communities.
According to the Forum, over 2,500 Sikh families have been reached in a short span, 242 students have been registered for scholarships, and more than 860 individuals have been helped to benefit from government schemes—thanks to the dedicated efforts of Mohinder Singh Lamba, Kukku Marwah, and Gurmeet Singh Vij.
