In a proud moment for Maharashtra and the Indian volleyball community, Nilesh Mate has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian women’s volleyball team for the upcoming AVC Women’s Cup, scheduled to be held in Vietnam from June 7, 2025.
Mate, a former player of Sfurti Sporting Club in Warora, has long been associated with the sport, carrying forward the legacy of the late Darapurkar Sir. He honed his coaching skills under the guidance of Sunil Hande at Samarth Vyayam Shala in Pratap Nagar, Nagpur. His appointment to lead the national squad at an international competition marks a significant milestone in his sporting career.
The announcement has been met with widespread acclaim across Maharashtra and beyond, with many calling it a historic achievement for Indian volleyball.
