Nagpur witnessed two separate fire incidents on Sunday, leading to significant property loss and raising safety concerns among residents.
The first blaze broke out at around 4 a.m. in a house at Colonel Bagh, Ganeshpeth. A fire engulfed the first floor of House No. 759, prompting local resident Sagar Dhawan to rush to the Cotton Market Fire Station to alert authorities. A fire engine was immediately dispatched, and firefighting efforts continued for nearly two and a half hours.
The house, owned by 78-year-old Veenutai Ingole, suffered extensive damage. Furniture including a sofa, cooler, divan, refrigerator, washing machine, ceiling fans, and POP decor were gutted. The estimated loss is pegged at ₹2.5 lakh.
Later in the afternoon, a second fire incident occurred at Pushpakunj Apartment in Telecom Nagar, under Pratap Nagar Police Station limits. Around 2:30 p.m., a short circuit in the building’s ground-floor electric meters sparked a fire that spread to the adjacent parking area.
One car and a two-wheeler (MH/31/DG/3145) were partially damaged. The car’s side panel and the front portion of the bike were charred before the flames were brought under control. Preliminary estimates suggest a loss of around ₹60,000.
Both incidents highlight the urgent need for electrical safety audits and fire preparedness in densely populated urban areas. Fire department officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any electrical faults immediately.
