A 30-year-old man from Kamptee has been arrested by the Kanhan Police for allegedly luring multiple women into fake relationships, sexually exploiting them, and extorting lakhs of rupees under threats of blackmail.
The accused, identified as Arjun Rajendra Kanoje, was taken into custody after one of the victims, a senior professional at an IT firm, came forward with a detailed complaint. Police investigations have since revealed that at least 12 women may have been similarly targeted.
According to officials, the complainant name withheld for privacy first met Arjun around five years ago while inquiring about a land deal in Kalmeshwar, where Arjun was working with a real estate company. He allegedly pretended to be unmarried, despite being married at the time.
The situation escalated on December 18, 2024, when Arjun allegedly took the woman to a hotel in Ramtek and raped her after she rejected his advances. Police say he also recorded explicit photos and videos, which he later used to blackmail her for money. The victim claimed that Arjun forced her to finance a car and transferred substantial funds under duress.
Eventually, she discovered the truth about Arjun’s marital status and attempted to sever ties. However, he reportedly continued to threaten her with the release of the private visuals on social media platforms.
During her ordeal, the victim also learned that several other women had fallen prey to similar tactics, with Arjun allegedly using blackmail to extort lakhs of rupees from them over time.
Based on the complaint, Kanhan Police registered a case under sections of rape, extortion, and criminal intimidation. The accused was arrested and an investigation is currently underway to identify and support other potential victims.
