Nagpur residents have been battling humid weather for the past few days, even though daytime temperatures have stayed below 40°C. Cloudy skies and light showers have added to the discomfort, making conditions sticky and unpleasant. However, the mercury is expected to rise starting May 15, bringing typical hot May weather to the city.
On Sunday, Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C and a minimum of 26.0°C. While the heat wasn’t intense, the humidity made the atmosphere uncomfortable. The current conditions, marked by occasional rain and cloud cover, are likely to continue for the next two days, with a possibility of gusty winds and light rain on May 14, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
A trough formed over Marathwada is drawing moisture into Vidarbha, resulting in light rainfall across the region. This has brought temporary relief, but thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in parts of Vidarbha over the coming days.
May is usually one of the hottest months in Nagpur and the rest of Vidarbha, with dry and scorching conditions. However, the first half of May this year has defied that trend, thanks to persistent cloud cover and scattered showers keeping temperatures slightly below the 40°C mark.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the southwest monsoon will likely arrive over Kerala around May 27, with a margin of error of four days. This marks the official beginning of the monsoon season in India. Typically, once the monsoon hits Kerala, it takes 10–15 days to reach central India, including Vidarbha. So, the region can expect the first signs of monsoon relief by late May or early June.
