Nagpur: A suspected child kidnapping case that triggered a high alert across Nagpur on May 13, Tuesday, was resolved within hours after police discovered it stemmed from a domestic dispute and not an actual abduction. The incident involved a woman returning to Nagpur from Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh, without informing her family, leading them to mistakenly believe her daughter had been kidnapped.
At around 1:00 pm, Nagpur Police Control Room received an alert from Chhattisgarh authorities stating that a five-year-old girl from Dongargarh had been kidnapped and was being transported in a white car bearing registration number CG-04. The vehicle had reportedly breached a security barricade at the Deori border and was heading toward Bhandara and Nagpur.
Acting swiftly, Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal issued a city-wide alert. Multiple checkpoints were established, and CCTV networks were activated across the city. Highway Police teams in Gondia, Bhandara, and Nagpur began tracing the vehicle.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Narendra Hiware later received specific intelligence that the suspect vehicle had entered the Nandanvan and Sakkardara areas. The car was successfully intercepted and brought to the Sakkardara Police Station.
Inside the vehicle were the driver, Sonu (name changed), and a woman, Saira (31, name changed). During questioning, Saira clarified that she had returned to her maternal home in Dongargarh with her two daughters (aged 11 and 5) about a month ago due to marital issues. Her husband, based in Nagpur, works in mobile phone repairs.
Unhappy even at her maternal home, she secretly contacted a friend from Nagpur and arranged for a car to pick her up. On the afternoon of May 13, she left Dongargarh without informing her family. Her relatives, seeing the car drive away, assumed that the five-year-old had been kidnapped and pursued the vehicle in another car. The vehicle crossed into Maharashtra, breaking through the interstate check post, further raising suspicion.
When asked about the girl, Saira revealed that both her daughters were still in Dongargarh at her mother’s house. To verify, ACP Hiware contacted Dongargarh Police Inspector Jitendra Verma. Dongargarh Police visited her residence and confirmed that both girls were safe with their grandmother and no kidnapping had occurred.
It was also revealed that Saira’s relatives had informed border police about a kidnapping based on their assumption. After thorough investigation and confirmation, police concluded that no abduction had taken place. Saira was then handed over to her relatives in Nagpur.
The case was resolved under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal and DCP Lohit Matani, with prompt action by ACP Narendra Hiware, Senior PI Mukund Thakre, PSI Pravin Wakle, and their team.
