Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has initiated Operation Sindoor targeting Pakistan. In its wake, security has been tightened nationwide, with a high alert issued at multiple key locations. The railway network, too, is under increased surveillance as part of precautionary measures.
Amid rising tensions, Nagpur Railway Station has been placed on high alert. At the same time, a bomb threat email in Mumbai has led to even tighter security across the railway network. Over the past two to three days, security personnel have been stationed at every corner of Nagpur Railway Station as a precaution.
Police Inspector Gaurav Gawande, in charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Nagpur, said that security has been tightened following the email threat in Mumbai and the launch of Operation Sindoor. Teams are checking suspicious objects and people with help from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the dog squad. An extra 20 railway police personnel have been deployed, and patrolling on trains has also been increased.
Police are using a sniffer dog to inspect trains onboard. Inspector Satyendra Yadav of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Nagpur Post said the RPF is maintaining strict vigilance across all platforms. Passengers’ luggage is being thoroughly checked with hand-held metal detectors, supported by the dog squad.
