In a bid to encourage timely payments and boost its revenue, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a special scheme offering a 15% rebate on property tax for those who pay online by June 30. The initiative is part of NMC’s effort to meet its ₹400 crore property tax collection target for the current financial year, as proposed by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari.
The NMC has adopted a multi-pronged approach to improve collections and has set quarterly targets to stay on track. Under the new scheme, taxpayers who pay their property tax online through the NMC website — www.nmcnagpur.gov.in — will receive an immediate 15% discount.
For those opting to pay their dues in person at NMC offices, a 10% rebate will be granted at the counter. The scheme aims to promote digital transactions while giving relief to property owners.
Adding further convenience, NMC has introduced a WhatsApp chatbot service to facilitate payments. Citizens can simply send “Hi” on WhatsApp to 7397807397 to begin the payment process. The chatbot guides users through the steps for completing the transaction.
Officials report a growing positive response from citizens, with many already switching to the online mode for ease and speed. The civic body has urged taxpayers to take advantage of the rebate before the June 30 deadline and contribute to the city’s financial health.
