Rail traffic through Nagpur is set to face temporary disruptions as the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division undertakes critical Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) modification work. The infrastructure upgrade is part of the commissioning of the third railway line between Nagpur and Itarsi, specifically targeting the up goods line from the Godhani end.
According to a press release from the railways, the Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) Department will carry out the work, which includes scheduled disconnections and Overhead Equipment (OHE) shutdowns under planned traffic blocks.
Pre-Non Interlocking (Pre-NI) operations are scheduled from May 15 to May 20. This will be followed by a 12-hour Non-Interlocking (NI) exercise on May 21, focusing on the up goods loop line. A four-hour traffic block is also planned during this phase.
Several Mail and Express services will be affected during the work period. Among them are trains 22847 (Visakhapatnam–LTT), 22807 (Santragachi–Chennai), 12807 (Visakhapatnam–Delhi), 12808 (Nizamuddin–Visakhapatnam), 12880 (Mumbai–LTT), and 22866 (Puri–LTT), which may be held at Kalamna station or experience delays arriving at Nagpur.
Additionally, on May 21, a two-hour block will affect coaching services including 12648 (Nizamuddin–Coimbatore) and 18237 (Korba–Amritsar).
Despite the temporary disruptions, trains running on the main line are expected to maintain their usual schedule. Signal systems on the up and down main lines will remain active to ensure safety and minimize inconvenience.
Central Railway has appealed to passengers for their cooperation, emphasizing that the short-term inconveniences are necessary for long-term operational enhancements.
