In response to a heightened terror alert following the recent attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, and based on intelligence inputs suggesting potential threats from terrorist organizations across the country, Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has announced a city-wide ban on drone operations.
The restriction, effective from midnight of May 17 until midnight of June 3, 2025, has been implemented as a precautionary measure to bolster national security and deter any possible terrorist activities. The directive has been issued under Sections 163(1), (2), and (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
As per the order, flying drones within Nagpur city limits is strictly prohibited during the specified period. Authorities have warned that violations will invite stringent legal action.
While a complete ban is in place, exemptions may be made for drones deployed for critical government functions. In such instances, operators must submit a formal request to the local police station along with No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both the Air Traffic Management Office at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch.
Security experts have reiterated the risks associated with drone misuse, noting that they can be exploited for surveillance, transporting explosives, or other unlawful purposes. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are maintaining a high state of alert to counter any such threats.
