A 23-year-old undertrial lodged at Nagpur Central Jail escaped from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the early hours of May 18, Sunday. The accused, identified as Harsh Mahendra Ramteke, a resident of Bhandara, was receiving treatment in Ward No. 36 when he fled around 2:30 am.
Ramteke, who was facing charges in a housebreaking case, managed to escape custody while still under medical supervision. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a light pink T-shirt with black stripes.
Police teams have launched a search operation across the city, and CCTV footage from the hospital is being examined. Nearby police stations have been put on alert, and a special team has been deployed to trace the absconding inmate.
Citizens have been requested to report any information regarding the accused to the nearest police station. Investigations are ongoing.
