A police verification of candidates selected to be appointed as teachers and office staff in schools is mandatory. The decision has been taken by the School Education Department to ensure the security of the students. Growing incidents of exploitation of school students have compelled the department to take the decision.
The criminal record, family background, record in earlier employment, if any, character, etc, will be verified before finalising the employment. The School Education Department has issued guidelines to be followed by schools to follow during the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff.
The technologies, like the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System, can be used to verify the background of the person to be appointed. The responsibility of verifying the record will be with the institution’s head.
The condition will be applicable for regular and contractual employment. Such a verification should be carried out for those who are already in employment.
So far as possible, only women candidates should be recruited as teacher and non-teaching staff in Pre-Primary and classes from Standard I to VI, the School Education Department has stated.
