Nagpur: Following strong intervention by the Maharashtra State Minority Commission, Dayanand Arya Kanya Vidyalaya in Jaripatka, Nagpur, has granted admission to a minority girl student it had earlier rejected. The school, despite holding minority institution status, had allegedly denied admission to students from minority communities, prompting a complaint to the Commission.
Taking serious cognizance, Commission Chairman Pyare Zia Khan ordered a joint probe by the Child Protection and Education Departments. The investigation team visited the school on May 13 and confirmed that the institution had deliberately refused admissions to eligible minority students.
Based on the report, an FIR was filed at Jaripatka Police Station against the school’s secretary Rajesh Lalwani and two female staff members.
Under pressure from the Commission, the school admitted the previously denied student on Tuesday, May 20. Chairman Khan also visited the school and issued a stern warning to the management against repeating such discriminatory practices.
He appealed to minority families to report similar cases directly to the Commission. “Strict action will be taken in every instance, and no injustice will be tolerated,” he assured.
