Nagpur: Unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms brought life to a halt in Nagpur on Wednesday night, causing waterlogging in several areas and disrupting traffic across the city. The sudden downpour led to chaos, with multiple incidents of uprooted trees and damaged vehicles being reported.
The Regional Meteorological Department had issued a rain alert earlier in the day. Around 7:30 pm, heavy showers began lashing the city, quickly inundating streets and leaving commuters stranded. Within minutes, roads turned into streams, and traffic came to a crawl in major areas. Many two-wheeler riders and pedestrians were seen taking shelter under bridges and bus stops.
The storm’s impact was felt across the city as several trees were uprooted due to strong winds, causing significant damage to parked cars and property in residential and commercial areas. Events such as weddings and outdoor functions faced severe disruption, especially those organized in open venues.
The Nagpur Police and the Fire and Emergency Services Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) were on high alert throughout the night, responding promptly to emergency calls and assisting in clearing blocked roads.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors during adverse weather and report emergencies to the helpline numbers. Further showers are not ruled out as per weather officials, who continue to monitor the situation.
