In a bold move to clean up the city’s dirtiest corners, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has zeroed in on 20 Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs)—areas notorious for open dumping. The good news? Seven of these hotspots are already cleaned up, thanks to smart strategies, local engagement, and sharper waste collection systems.
The clean-up drive is being led by Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, who heads NMC’s Solid Waste Management Department. “Our goal isn’t just to remove garbage—it’s to stop it at the source and shift public mindset,” she said.
The GVPs are spread across 10 zones, including Laxminagar, Dhantoli, Dharampeth, and Satranjipura. Each point is now geo-tagged and monitored daily. Key success stories include Ganesh Nagar (Zone 3), Sitabuldi Shani Mandir Road (Zone 2), and Devkrupa Society (Zone 8), where illegal dumping has either stopped or drastically reduced.
Pant’s innovative step to sync garbage collection with local routines has been a game-changer. Tailoring pick-up times to each neighborhood’s habits has minimized waste buildup at odd hours.
Meanwhile, the IEC teams are on the ground, raising awareness and turning residents into active partners in this mission.
Spots like Dalda Company Chowk and Sakkardara Udan Pul are still under watch—but are already showing signs of improvement.
With seven GVPs down and more on the mend, Nagpur is proving that clean streets start with smart strategy and community power.
