The state government has cleared administrative approval and sanctioned Rs45.87 crore for the development of three key temples in Nagpur — the Lakshminarayan Temple, which features a 51-foot Shiva statue, Kutte Wale Baba Math in Shanti Nagar, and Murlidhar Temple in Pardi.
The funding falls under the larger Rs893 crore temple development initiative announced for the Vidarbha region. The plan aims to enhance religious infrastructure and promote pilgrimage tourism across major spiritual sites in the region.
According to a government resolution dated May 22, the funds have been approved for infrastructure and beautification works at these sites. The decision follows the official declaration of these temples as pilgrimage centres. Subsequently, the district collector issued a notification to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on November 29, 2023, initiating the process for their upliftment.
The proposal for the temple development was routed through the district planning committee and later submitted to the state government, where it received clearance from a high-powered committee chaired by the chief secretary on October 17, 2024. As per the decision, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been appointed the nodal agency to execute the project.
Final approval came from the apex committee led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Welcoming the move, East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde thanked CM Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde for granting administrative sanction, calling it a significant step for the constituency’s spiritual and infrastructural growth.
Work on the development of these temples is expected to begin soon, with NMC overseeing the implementation as the nodal agency.
