Nagpur’s daily commuters are set for a major upgrade as Maharashtra’s new Aggregator Cabs Policy comes into effect on June 2. This game-changing move targets popular app-based services like Ola and Uber, aiming to make rides fairer, safer, and more reliable for the city’s 2.5 million annual users.
With around 4,500 taxis and autos serving roughly 150,000 passengers daily, Nagpur’s transport scene is bustling—and these new rules could be a game-changer. Key among them: strict fines for cancellations. Drivers who cancel after accepting a ride will pay 10% of the fare (up to ₹100) back to passengers, while passengers canceling without valid reasons will be fined 5% (up to ₹50) payable to drivers. This ensures fewer last-minute cancellations and smoother rides for all.
Fare surges, another sore point, will be capped at 1.5 times the base rate during peak hours, while off-peak discounts can go up to 25%. Plus, drivers are guaranteed at least 80% of the fare, promoting fair earnings.
Safety takes center stage too, with mandatory real-time GPS tracking, emergency helplines, and thorough driver background checks becoming standard across all apps. Enhanced customer support will also ensure quick resolution of complaints.
Nagpur’s transport authorities are gearing up to implement these reforms, which residents have welcomed enthusiastically. With fairer fares, safer rides, and clearer rules, Nagpur is stepping confidently toward a smarter, more trustworthy cab service future.
