The South-West Monsoon has broken the record of 107 years in Maharashtra. It arrived days before the schedule. Life in Mumbai has come to a grinding halt due to very heavy rain. A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai on May 26. The roads and rail tracks are under water, and flights (take-off and landing) are delayed. Spice Jet has alerted travellers who have booked tickets to confirm the timings, due to a warning of very heavy rains on Monday.
The Mumbai Meteorological Department has also appealed to the people to remain at home. About 3,100 occupants of 96 insecure buildings have been shifted to safer places.
The Met Office has also issued warnings for cities near the seashore in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts. The local administration is in alert mode. The Met Office has predicted heavy to very heavy rain and lightning in several parts of Maharashtra.
The people have been advised to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the local administration.
