Union Home Minister Amit Shah performed the bhoomipujan of the National Forensic Sciences University Campus and its temporary campus on Monday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Ashish Deshmukh, NFSU Vice-Chancellor Dr J M Vyas, and other officials were present.

Shah laid the foundation of the permanent campus and virtually inaugurated the temporary campus. The National Forensic Sciences University is the first university in the world in the field. The Nagpur campus is the 11th under the university, the others being in Gujarat, New Delhi, Goa, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Manipur, Pune, and in Uganda.
The University will produce experts in forensic sciences to help in the detection of crime and related legal procedures. Five courses will start at the Nagpur campus from the 2025-2026 academic session.
