Wadi, Nagpur: The Wadi Municipal Council launched a powerful demolition drive on Tuesday against rampant illegal encroachments choking the Nagpur-Amravati National Highway. Acting under the leadership of Chief Officer Dr. Richa Dhabarde and heavy police security, municipal teams used bulldozers to tear down unauthorized hoardings, banners, and permanent structures disrupting traffic and endangering public safety.
The operation kicked off near Lucky Chicken Center and will continue until May 30, targeting both sides of the highway where footpaths have vanished under illegal shops, stalls, and billboards. JCBs, Poklan machines, and trucks were deployed as teams worked swiftly to clear the clutter that had turned a national highway into a chaotic urban hazard.
Years of unchecked encroachment had made this stretch of road a death trap, with pedestrians forced onto the street due to blocked footpaths, especially on Khadgaon Road. Angry citizens had repeatedly complained, prompting this long-overdue crackdown.
Dr. Dhabarde stated,
“We removed all illegal structures causing traffic obstructions. Unauthorized hoardings, temporary and permanent structures were demolished. Street vendors have been strictly warned to operate only within designated zones.”
The demolition squad was supported by engineers Nitesh Ghormade, Siddharth Shardul, officers from sanitation and fire departments, and tax and health officials, all working under tight police cover.
This bold, no-nonsense move by the Wadi Municipal Council sends a clear message: public roads are not for sale. Land mafias and illegal vendors beware—this is just the beginning. The city will no longer tolerate encroachments that endanger lives and hijack public infrastructure. The bulldozers are here—and they’re not stopping.
