The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has issued a strict ultimatum to 325 illegal encroachers occupying government land in North Nagpur. Despite previous eviction drives, illegal settlements have resurfaced, with concrete houses and shops mushrooming on NIT land.
Taking serious note, the North Nagpur divisional office of NIT has issued a public notice, giving encroachers three days to vacate. If they fail, NIT’s demolition squad will move in with bulldozers to reclaim the land.
The encroachments span multiple areas including Mouza Wanjari (Khasra No. 30–35), Yashodhara Nagar, Sarvarachad, Pravesh Nagar, Yogi Arvind Nagar, Shivaji Chowk, Pawan Nagar, Sangam Nagar, Mehbubpura, Sanjeevani Quarters, Hameed Nagar, Sangharsh Nagar, and more. Shockingly, many have erected permanent structures and even fabricated backdated documents to claim ownership — a fraudulent practice that surfaced in 2023 when NIT had to deploy bulldozers in Yashodhara Nagar.
Forgery and Land Mafia at Work
In Ekta Colony, land brokers are selling NIT plots using fake documents. Complaints reached NIT’s main office and the Sadar police station, but no concrete action was taken. Officials have remained silent, allowing the illegal trade to flourish. In areas like Vandevi Nagar and Gareebnawaz Ground, sheds have been built and sold to the poor.
The situation is spiraling, and NIT has now drawn the line.
“Encroachments will be removed with force if not vacated voluntarily,” warns the NIT.
With public land being stolen in broad daylight, the NIT’s aggressive stance signals the beginning of a long-overdue crackdown. Encroachers beware — the bulldozers are coming, and this time, there will be no second chances.
