In a determined effort to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi, has launched a 24×7 national helpline ‘1933’ under its initiative ‘MANAS’ (Mental Health and Addiction Support). Operational since January 11, 2025, this toll-free number allows citizens across India to report the sale, distribution, and misuse of narcotic substances anonymously and without fear.
Responding to the central initiative, Nagpur Police have called upon residents to report any suspicious drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods by dialling the MANAS helpline. Authorities emphasized that public participation is crucial in creating a drug-free society.
Under the direction of Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Nagpur Police have intensified their anti-narcotics campaign through “Operation Thunder”, targeting drug smuggling and distribution networks within the city. In just the past few days, teams from the Nagpur Crime Branch have raided 17 locations, registered 16 cases, and apprehended 26 individuals in connection with drug-related offences.
Seized items during the operation are estimated to be worth over ₹43 lakh, including banned substances and illegal paraphernalia.
The police have reiterated their commitment to continue strong and targeted action against the drug trade and have encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any illegal activity through the MANAS Helpline 1933.
