The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has dropped the hammer on all contractors and government agencies: complete every single roadwork by May 31 or face heavy fines, criminal action, and blacklisting. In a no-nonsense review meeting, NMC Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari made it clear — delays will not be tolerated.
“After May 31, no road digging will be allowed under any condition, except for genuine emergencies. Violators will face strict police action,” Dr. Chaudhari declared.
The warning extends to departments like PWD, NIT, NHAI, and MSIDC. If they miss the deadline, NMC may revoke their rights to execute future works within city limits.
Under AMRUT Phase 2, of the planned 40.96 km of pipeline work, only 32.33 km is done. The remaining 8.63 km must be completed immediately, said Dr. Chaudhari, slamming contractors for delays due to poor manpower and mismanagement.
Adding fuel to public anger is unremoved debris choking city roads, especially in slum zones. The Commissioner has ordered: “Clear it by May 31 or we’ll do it and recover costs with penalties.”
Roads must be restored to a safe, drivable state, and no complaint from citizens will be entertained post-deadline. Zonal officers have been directed to inspect and report non-compliance.
The message is loud and clear: Finish the work, fix the mess — or be ready to face the full force of the law.
