City’s Danaganj, Harihar Mandir, and Small Factory areas are on the brink of a sanitation disaster. A crucial drain running along the South East Central Railway boundary has been neglected for far too long, now completely choked with garbage, sludge, and even trees and plants — turning it into a ticking time bomb. On Thursday, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari stormed the site, visibly alarmed by the shocking state of the drain, and immediately issued strict orders for a swift and thorough cleanup.
Accompanied by senior engineers and officials, Dr. Chaudhari heard firsthand from former Corporator Narendra (Balya) Borkar about how the drain’s blockage causes devastating floods during monsoon, with dirty water spilling into homes and streets, threatening public health and property. The unchecked growth of vegetation inside the drain further cripples water flow, escalating the risk of widespread waterlogging and disease outbreaks.
Taking no nonsense, the Commissioner questioned the slow progress and efficiency of the responsible officers and demanded the Public Works Department secure urgent clearance from railway authorities to start cleanup work immediately.
In a powerful move to end ongoing negligence, Dr. Chaudhari ordered a full layout report detailing all works done and pending in the area — no more excuses or delays will be tolerated. The dilapidated sewer line near Sahu Mohalla in the Small Factory area was flagged as a critical emergency, with clear instructions to prioritize its repair. Furthermore, the addition of a new sewer line in the same locality was ordered to prevent future sewage disasters.
Dr. Chaudhari’s no-holds-barred crackdown sends a loud warning: neglecting essential drainage infrastructure will no longer be brushed aside. With monsoon rains pounding the city, immediate action is the only way to safeguard thousands of residents from impending flooding and health hazards. The clock is ticking — will officials rise to the challenge or watch the city drown in its own filth?
